Term 1 Week 1 2016
Nga mihi nui ki a koutou
Welcome to the new 2016 school year. We welcome back our returning students and their families and extend a special welcome to those who are new to our school community.
We are all set for an exciting year of learning and the staff and I look forward to working with you and your wonderful children.
We welcome Mr Davidson back. He is part of the United class team.
Miss Dravitzki has been seconded to work at the Catholic Education Office for the first term and Mrs Robyn Schischka is relieving in the Hive in her absence.
The newsletter comes home every Tuesday and it is the chief means of communication with you. Please take the time to read it. It is also posted on our website each week.
Enjoy your week,
Jacinta Cousins, Principal
Reflection of the week
We give thanks for the blessings that marked our school holidays and ask the Lord’s continuing blessing on this new year. We welcome all our new students and their families who have joined our school community.
May the Lord bless us as we begin this new school year.
May his loving presence surround us.
May we find peace and happiness in work and play.
On Thursday, February 11, it is our school and parish Feast day. To celebrate this, along with blessing our new school year we invite you all to join with us at the 10am mass.
Parent/Teacher/Student Beginning of Year Conferences
These are to held on Thursday, February 18 starting at 2.15pm. Booking forms will come home shortly.
Please note that school will finish at lunchtime(1.20pm) that day to allow time for all conferences to be completed. Children are to be collected by 2pm at the latest.
A reminder to please let your after school care providers know to collect your child early that day too please.
Whole School Inquiry Learning Trip
On Wednesday, February 17, the whole school will be visiting the Island Bay Marine Education Centre in Wellington. This is part of our first term’s ocean inquiry study called “Into The Deep.”
We will be travelling by bus to Wellington leaving school at 8am and returning by 3pm.
We will need 18 parents to help so please let us know as soon as possible if you are able to do so.
The cost of this trip will be covered from your school donation.
2016 Parental Permission Slips
These were issued today. Please fill out and return as soon as possible.
If your child is going to be absent from school please ensure you ring the school office by 9.30am. We need to know why students are absent as details must be entered onto our school management system. If you don’t let us know then your child has to be marked as truant.
If your child is turning 5 in the next couple of years please ensure their name is down with Kath in the office.
Thank you for your prompt response to paying for stationery, the IT and RE fees and the school donation. We realise in some cases the prices for stationery are higher than the larger retailers charge but our prices stay the same throughout the year and all profits go back to the students. If you would like to pay monies owing to the school by internet banking please contact the school office (3589727) for the bank account number and reference information.
Please note that whether or not you purchased your stationery from school we do need the contact information sheet returned at the bottom of it so we can update any change of address or phone number. It is Board of Trustees election year this year so this makes it even more essential.
There are 4 weeks remaining in the 2015/16 season on the dates below:
Friday 19th February
Friday 26th February
Friday 4th March
Friday 11th March
All teams will remain in the same grades as at the end of last year.
Cathedral Junior Choir
Is there a young person in your family who loves singing?
We welcome singers from the parish, St James’ School, St Mary’s School and Our Lady of Lourdes School. Our new choir for students in Years 4-8 will have its first rehearsal in February 2016. The choir will meet weekly on Thursdays after school during term time with cathedral musical director Virginia Warbrick. Using the Royal School of Church Music Programme ‘Voice for Life’(VFL), our junior choristers will develop their vocal and musical skills, and their knowledge of church music and its place within liturgy. Commitments include attending weekly rehearsals in the parish lounge, singing at 9.30am mass every 4-6 weeks in our pastoral area and a VFL materials cost of $20 per term. If you would like further information about this and to sign up, please email Virginia at: email@example.com
