Term 2   Week 3  2016

Dear Parents/Caregivers
Nga mihi nui ki a koutou

Yesterday, along with the 238 Catholic schools in New Zealand we celebrated Catholic School’s Day.
As part of our celebrations we launched 66 yellow and blue helium filled balloons. This represented the number of years our school has been opened.
On each balloon there was attached a blessing for those who find the balloon along with our contact details in case they wish to respond.

Enjoy your week,
Jacinta Cousins, Principal

Virtue of the Week

Respect – Whaka-ute

Respect is an attitude of caring about people and treating them with dignity. Respect is valuing ourselves and others. We show respect by speaking and acting with courtesy. When we are respectful we treat others as we want to be treated. Respect includes honouring the rules of our family or school, which makes life more orderly and peaceful. It is knowing that every man, woman and child deserves respect, including you.

We practice whaha-ute when we:

p-respect

  •  treat others as we want to be treated
  • speak courteously to everyone
  • take special care of other people’s belongings
  • are receptive to the wisdom of elders
  • honour the rules of our family, school and nation
  • expect respect for our body and our rights

Reflection of the week

Next Sunday we celebrate Pentecost. The mission of the church is to do the work of the Holy Spirit.reflection16-13
Jesus breathed into his disciples his own life, the Holy Spirit. By the power of that Spirit,
the church is born. They are now to do what his death and resurrection was all about- forgive.
Peace is the greeting of the Risen Lord, and peace is his continued presence in the church.

Last Sunday we celebrated the Ascension of The Lord into Heaven.
The Gospel told us that before Jesus left his disciples physically, he called them to be witnesses. Witnesses to all they had seen and heard. They were to tell everyone to turn from their sins and receive God’s forgiveness. Jesus did not leave them alone in this mission. He promised them the Holy Spirit.

Prayer:
Lord, just as the disciples were happy that Jesus returned to you, make us happy to know about him and keep us always praising you. We ask this Christ our Lord.
