Term 2   Week 5  2016

Dear Parents/Caregivers
Nga mihi nui ki a koutou

Welcome to week 5. Hopefully we get some respite from the wet weather for the next few days!

This week I am away at the New Zealand Conference held in Auckland. If you have any queries or concerns in my absence I am sure Mrs O’Connor or Mr Anderson can help.

A reminder that next Monday is Queen’s Birthday so there is no school that day.

Enjoy your week,
Jacinta Cousins, Principal

Virtue of the Week

Loyalty-Pumau

Loyalty is staying true to someone. p-loyalty
It is standing up for something you believe in without

wavering.
It is being faithful to your family, country, school, friends or ideals -when the going gets tough as well as when things are good.
When you are a loyal friend, even if someone disappoints you, you still hang in there with them.
Loyalty is staying committed.

We practice pumau when we:

  • stand up for people and ideas we believe in
  • are a faithful friend through good times and bad
  • don’t allow loyalty to lead us into trouble
  • don’t let others come between us and our friends
  • are loyal to ourselves

Reflection of the week

reflection16-15

The focus of the readings on Sunday was on the presence of Christ in the Eucharist. In the first reading, Paul presents what he was taught concerning the actions and words of Jesus at the Last Supper – in the sharing of bread and wine, Christ is present.

The Gospel proclaims that Christ himself is our life. It is he who satisfies our hunger and thirst. He chose to make this reality concrete in language, bread and wine. Jesus invites us to share his body and blood. In these symbols we encounter the living Lord, ever present to us. To share in his life, to be one with him, is to live forever.

School Notices

School Cross Country
This is to be held on Tuesday,  June 7, at Rangitane Park which is off Maxwell’s Line starting a 1pm.
All students must be in their full school PE uniform.  The children will be bussed to and from the venue. There is an expectation that all children stay until the end of the last race as we are there to support one another until the end.
If you wish to take your child home from the park a the end of the day please let their teacher or myself know so they can be accounted for.

Trailer Needed Please
If anyone has a trailer we could use to transport the gear down to the park for our cross country on Tuesday morning, please be in touch.

Catholic Schools Kapahaka Cultural Festival
On Friday,  July 1, our senior kapahaka group will be performing at the Kapahaka Cultural Festival which is being held at Crossroads, 220 Church Street. As this is in close proximity to the school hopefully, weather permitting, we will be able to walk there and back. The first performance begins at 1pm and it is expected to be all over by 4pm. We are the third school up on the programme.
Each school has been asked to donate a basket of non perishable food items which will be donated to St Vincent de Paul, so I ask that each member of the group to bring along a suitable item for this please.  This can be collected any time from now on.

‘Gals’ Event -Change of date
Due to a clash of date for several of our families we have now changed the date for this event to Thursday,  June 9. Hopefully this doesn’t inconvenience too many of you. This will be a board games and shared supper evening and will be held from 6-7pm.
Please bring along something to share for supper and your favourite board game.
