Virtue of the Week

Love -Aroha

Love is a special feeling that fills your heart.
You show love in a smile, a pleasant way of speaking, a thoughtful act or a hug.
Love is treating people and things with special care and kindness because they mean so much to you.
Love is treating other people just as you would like them to treat you- with respect and kindness.

We practice aroha when we:

  •  treat others as we would want them to treat us
  • say kind and loving things
  • share our things and ourselves
  • show affection
  • think loving thoughts
  • take good care of the things we love

Reflection of the week

reflection16-34The readings this Sunday focus on fidelity. The first reading, from the prophet Malachi,
draws a clear distinction between good and evil, reward and punishment. For the prophet the end is clear – those who remain true, who worship, God, will be saved.

The Gospel passage deals with the end time. As we come to the end of the liturgical year,
the liturgy takes us back to the question of the first Sunday of Advent, “When will the end of the world come?” Here, Jesus warns that before the end comes, Christians will be tested and tempted by false prophets and antichristian forces. But, as our response to the first reading affirms, nothing can take us from God’s love.
