Term 4   Week 7  2016

Dear Parents/Caregivers
Nga mihi nui ki a koutou

We were lucky to be blessed with fine weather for our gala so thank you all for your prayers.
The PTFA  worked very hard for this event and their sterling efforts, along with the help and support from many others in the school community have seen them reap the rewards. We look to have made in the vicinity of $8,000 so well done and THANK YOU all.

Enjoy your week,

Jacinta Cousins, Principal

Virtue of the Week

Courtesy – Whakaaro-atawhai

Courtesy is being polite and having good manners.
It is a gracious way of speaking and acting which gives others a feeling of being valued and respected.
It is greeting others with respect.

We practice courtesy when we:

  • show others that we value and respect them
  • remember to treat elders, parents, teachers and children politely
  • think about how your reactions affect others
  • eat, speak, and move graciously
  • make requests instead of demands
  • greet people with a smile

Reflection of the week

reflection16-37

This Sunday it is the first Sunday of Advent.
There is a twofold aspect to Advent: it is a time of preparation for Christmas in which the first coming of Christ is recalled; at the same time it directs our thoughts to the second coming of christ.
The candles on the Advent wreath shed light into our path as we journey through Advent. The most precious light of all is the light of love. Without that light the world would be a very dark place. Love lights up everything. It brings hope to a world darkened by selfishness, indifference and hatred. The season of Advent provides us with a marvellous opportunity to make the world a brighter place. We can do this through little words and deeds of kindness and of service.

To All the OLOL Families

A massive thank you from the PTFA for all your help and support for the school gala. We had a wonderful response for help on the day, baking contributions, white elephant and clothes donations.
We would like to acknowledge and thank the OLOL staff who all put in a huge effort on the day, and were willing to help out wherever was needed. Also to the students who helped with setup and who worked on stalls, much appreciated, great to see you out there.
A special thank you to Father Vaughan for opening the gala with a lovely blessing and including the congregation from the 10am mass, as well as his health and safety expertise and willingness to help.
To all the helpers and contributors on the day, we couldn’t have done it without you! We appreciate your time and willingness to contribute to our school community. Especially our fantastic MC who spent 3 hours on the wheel and MCing the event.
To the amazing men who brought us the playhouses, wreck a car, spin the wheel truck, and much more, thank you so much!
And finally to a fantastic team that worked tirelessly to organise the gala, thank you for all your hard work and copious amount of time put in over the last two terms, fabulous!
The PTFA is always keen for new members or helpers, let us know if you’re keen! Thanks again to everyone, we have a wonderful school community and it’s a privilege to be part of something so special.
