Term 1 Week 2 2017
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Nga mihi nui ki a koutou
I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend and the lovely weather for a change. I know I did.
We have made a very positive start to the new year and the children all seem to have settled in well.
This week we have two special events on our calendar. Our run, jump, throw activities on Friday morning to celebrate our school and parish feast day which is February 11 and on Sunday our school and parish mass and picnic which starts at 10am. You are all warmly invited to join us for both these events.
Enjoy your week

Virtue of the Week
Excellence – Tino pai-rawa
Excellence is doing your best. It is giving your very best to any task you do or any relationship you have. Excellence is effort guided by a noble purpose. It is a desire for perfection. The perfection of a seed comes in the fruit. When you practice excellence, you bring your gifts to fruition
We practise tino pai-rawa when we:
give our best to whatever we do- give our best to relationships
- set noble and realistic goals
- remember to plan and practice
- don’t try to do everything
- develop our special gifts
Reflection of the week
This Saturday, February 11, it is our school and parish’s Feast Day. This is the day in the Liturgical year that we remember when Our Lady, Mary, appeared to Bernadette at Lourdes. This is a day of celebration for us. We are called to be disciples of Jesus and Mary was one of the first disciples.
Appreciation Spot
A big thank you to Victoria and Geoff Bell, Alesha and Chris White, Claire Walsh, Nick Wilson, Belinda Gallagher and Kathleen Palenski who came to the working bee at the end of the holidays and worked hard on cleaning up the grounds. You all did a wonderful job.

Parish/School Mass & Picnic this Sunday 12th February
We extend an invitation to all members of our school community to join us for our parish/school mass and picnic to be held at Rangitane Park on Racecourse Road this Sunday February 12.
Mass will begin at 10am and will be followed by traditional picnic games for all ages, with a BBQ lunch to follow.
Mass outdoors means you’re encouraged to bring your own seating, though about 50 chairs will be transported to the venue.
Picnic Lunch: The parish will provide cooked sausages, bread, sauce, plates and forks. Please bring a salad to share and your own drinks – water will be available.
Parent/Teacher/Student Beginning of Year Conferences
These are to held on Thursday, February 16 starting at 2pm. Hopefully you have all sent back your booking form.
Appointment times will be sent home this Friday.
Please note that school will finish at lunchtime(1.20pm) that day to allow time for all conferences to be completed. Children are to be collected by 2pm at the latest.
A reminder to please let your after school care providers know to collect your child early that day if applicable.
2017 Parental Permission Slips
Please ensure these are sent in if not already done so.
Driving into the school grounds is not permitted before and after school. This in the interests of child safety. Please respect this policy.
Absenteeism
If your child is going to be absent from school please ensure you ring the school office by 9.30am. We need to know why students are absent as details must be entered onto our school management system. If you don’t let us know then your child has to be marked as truant.
Enrolments
If your child is turning 5 in the next couple of years please ensure their name is down with Kath in the office.
