Term 1   Week 5  2017

Dear Parents/Caregivers
Nga mihi nui ki a koutou

Weren’t we blessed with glorious weather over the weekend? This week’s forecast looks pretty good too thankfully.

This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and the whole school will be going to the 10am mass. You are welcome to join us if you are able to.

Enjoy your week
Jacinta Cousins, Principal

Virtue of the Week

Diligence – Puku-mahi

Diligence is working hard and doing the best job you possibly can.
When you are diligent, you take special care to do things step by step.
You think and move carefully to make sure things will turn out right.
Being diligent is being industrious, giving all you have to give to whatever you do.

We practice puku-mahi when we:images

  • pay attention to what we are doing
  • do things carefully, step by step
  • practice to the point of excellence
  • give our absolute best to what we do
  • work hard
  • don’t give up.

Reflection of the week

This Wednesday is Ash Wednesday which marks the beginning of the season of Lent – the 40 days leading up to Easter.  During Lent we are encouraged to build our relationship with God and with one another.

reflection17-5Lent can be a time of growth and transformation if we are ready to listen and answer the call. It is a time to put our faith into action. This is a time when we can all think about how we can do less of ‘just the usual” and more of how can we turn  just the usual into something that is of an excellent standard. We can give our best and help others.

Jersey end of last year named “Serena Noun”.   This went missing from the Hive.   Please check at home.

Eftpos
This has been discussed by the school board and management and it was decided that the expense of running a machine was not warranted. We talked with other schools of a similar size to help us reach this decision.
The use of internet banking, with appropriate referencing, is encouraged, and ways of better communicating this information to parents is being investigated.

Sunsmart Awareness
We are a sunsmart school and there is a sign on the wall outside Room 5 to acknowledge our commitment to sunsmart awareness. As part of our school’s sunsmart policy we encourage students to apply sunscreen  if they have it, before they come to school each day and each class has a supply of sunscreen which students are encouraged to use throughout the rest of the day.
Our  ‘no hat no play’ policy  is also part of our sunsmart awareness policy.
