Nga mihi nui ki a koutou
Welcome to last full week of the school year and as this is the final full newsletter I take this opportunity to thank you all for the contributions you have made to our school in so many different ways over the year.
School finishes next Thursday, December 14 at 12.30pm and starts back in the new year on February 7.
Enjoy your week,
Jacinta Cousins, Principal
Virtue of the Week
Thankfulness – Whaka-whetai-nga
Thankfulness is being grateful for what you have. It is an attitude of gratitude for learning, loving and being. It is appreciating the little things which happen around you and within you every day. It is having a sense of wonder about the beauty of this world. It is being aware of the gifts in your life.
We practice whaka-whetai-nga when we:
- have an attitude of gratitude
- are receptive to gifts
- appreciate our own abilities instead of envying others
- see the difficulties of life as opportunities to learn
- appreciate the beauty of this world
- count our blessings every day
Reflection of the week
This Sunday it is the second Sunday of Advent.
The word Advent means “coming” or “arrival”. The focus of the entire season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus, preparing ourselves for his coming. Each Christmas we spend hours and hours thinking of and shopping for presents to give to our family and friends. But what about the one whose birthday it is that we are celebrating?
Have a think this Christmas about what ‘presents’ you could give to Jesus in how you spend your special family time over the Christmas season. How can you as a family bring the presence of Jesus in together and how you reach out to others?
End of year whole school mass & Year 6 Graduation
This is being held at 7pm on Wednesday, December 13.
All students and their families are expected to attend this. We cannot stress enough the importance of this event. It is part of the commitment you made when choosing this catholic school for your child/ren. We are farewelling our senior students and it is thanksgiving for the end of another successful school year. Children are to be dressed in their school uniform and they will sit with their class. Following the mass there will be a supper. We ask each family to provide a plate of finger food for this please.
Those of you who are able to, could you also bring along a Christmas food item for the St Vincent de Paul food basket which will be taken up at the offertory during the mass.
Please note children have permission to sleep in and arrive at school the following morning by 10.30am.
These are to be held on Friday, December 8 starting around 9.15am. Children may come to school dressed in their PE uniform that day and we advise they have sunscreen applied. Hats are essential too.
The PTFA will be selling sausages in bread, juicies and cans of drink once the sports are over (approx 11.30) at $2 each.
This is to be held in the hall starting at 12pm on Thursday December 14. School closes at the end of this assembly which is at approximately 12.30pm.
These will be coming home in the last week of the term. You will be advised on this report of the class and teacher your child will have next year, plus their stationery list will be included.
