Term 1 Week 4 2018
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Nga mihi nui ki a koutou
A big thank you to those who came along to our parish school mass and picnic on Sunday. Despite the weather it was a joyful occasion and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves.
Thank you to Fr Joe and Ms Brown for their support with the mass and to the staff for their efforts in providing the games and supervising the swimming.
Enjoy your week,
Jacinta Cousins, Principal
Virtue of the Week
Diligence – Puku-mahi
Diligence is working hard and doing the best job you possibly can.
When you are diligent, you take special care to do things step by step.
You think and move carefully to make sure things will turn out right.
Being diligent is being industrious, giving all you have to give to whatever you do.
We practice puku-mahi when we:
- pay attention to what you are doing
- do things carefully, step by step
- practice to the point of excellence
- give our absolute best to what you do
- work hard
- don’t give up.
Reflection of the week
The first reading this Sunday, the third Sunday of Lent, is the Ten Commandments which calls us to a just law which recognises our dependence on God and the rights of our neighbour. The Gospel presents a seemingly harsh Jesus. In the sacred temple, Jesus lashes out against greed and selfishness, focuses our lives on God and the things of God, and reveals himself as the true “temple.”
Jesus was harsh with those who insisted on the letter of the Law but did not live its meaning. Our hope for salvation is not found in either doggedly following the law or in material wealth but in the Resurrection of Christ.
