Virtue of the Week

Friendliness – Whaka-hoahoa

Friendliness is being a friend.
It is taking an interest in other people.
It is going out of your way to make others feel welcome or to make a stranger feel at home.
When you are friendly, you happily share your belongings, time, ideas and feelings.
You share the good times and the bad times together.
Friendliness is the best cure for loneliness.

We practice whaka-hoahoa when we:

  • like ourselves and realise we have a lot to offer
  • smile and greet someone we don’t know
  • get to know someone and let them get to know us
  • show an interest in others
  • show caring when a friend needs us
  • are friendly to people who look and act different

Reflection of the week

The mission of the church is to love – all people, everywhere.
The ultimate sign of the Christian believer is love. Love is not an option. It is the commandment of the one who witnessed to his love for us by giving us his life.
In the Gospel this Sunday, Peter tells us that this love must be all inclusive. God does not have favourite people. God’s Spirit is poured out on all the Gentiles as well as the Jews. The Christian community is founded, not in external circumstances, but in Christ’s love.

Appreciation Spot
