Welcome to last full week of the school year and as this is the final newsletter I take this opportunity to thank you all for the contributions you have made to our school in so many different ways over the year.
School finishes next Thursday, December 20 at 12.30pm and starts back in the new year on February 7.
I wish you all a blessed Christmas and a joyful holiday season,
Jacinta Cousins, Principal
Virtue of the Week
Thankfulness – Whaka-whetai-nga
Thankfulness is being grateful for what you have. It is an attitude of gratitude for learning, loving and being. It is appreciating the little things which happen around you and within you every day. It is having a sense of wonder about the beauty of this world. It is being aware of the gifts in your life.
We practice whaka-whetai-nga when we:
- have an attitude of gratitude
- are receptive to gifts
- appreciate our own abilities instead of envying others
- see the difficulties of life as opportunities to learn
- appreciate the beauty of this world
- count our blessings every day
Reflection of the week
This Sunday it is the second Sunday of Advent.
The word Advent means “coming” or “arrival”. The focus of the entire season is the celebration of the birth of Jesus, preparing ourselves for his coming. Each Christmas we spend hours and hours thinking of and shopping for presents to give to our family and friends. But what about the one whose birthday it is that we are celebrating?
Have a think this Christmas about what ‘presents’ you could give to Jesus in how you spend your special family time over the Christmas season. How can you as a family bring the presence of Jesus in together and how you reach out to others?
Congratulations to Ms Brown on her recent engagement.
Zoo Trip This Thursday and Friday.
Children must be in their correct PE uniform and sunhat and they will need a drink bottle and a substantial lunchbox to keep them going all day!
A reminder the bus is leaving sharp at 7.30am so don’t be late!
Parents in charge of a group will be issued with all the necessary Risk and Analysis information prior to leaving.
On December 17 we will be holding a carol evening.
If the weather allows we will start with a picnic tea out on the field followed by carols. Each class will be singing a carol and we have invited cultural groups to sing one as well. If wet this will be held in the hall.
End of year whole school Thanksgiving Mass & Year 6 Graduation
This is being held at 7pm on Wednesday, December 19.
All students and their families are expected to attend this. We cannot stress enough the importance of this event. We are farewelling our senior students and it is thanksgiving for the end of another successful school year. Children are to be dressed in their school uniform and they will sit with their class. Following the mass there will be a supper. We ask each family to provide a plate of finger food for this please.
Those of you who are able to, could you also bring along a Christmas food item for the St Vincent de Paul food basket which will be taken up at the offertory during the mass.
Please note children have permission to sleep in and arrive at school the following morning by 10.30am.
Thank you to the Harrison family for their initiative in helping our children to realise the importance of giving with the food donation box which has gone around each class over the past week.
Families have been very generous in their donations for this.
Its was unfortunate that we had to cancel this event.
These will now be held in the second week of the new school year, February 15 (PP Feb 18).
Please check at home for all city and school library books. These need to be returned to school by Friday please.
This is to be held in the hall starting at 12pm on Thursday December 20. School closes at the end of this assembly which is at approximately 12.30pm.
