Term 2  Week 9  2020

HELLO, KIA ORA…

Welcome to Week 9 of this term. We hope everything is going well for you all. Our school is settling in well and we have consolidated all the wonderful learning that happened in homes and resetting new learning programmes. All staff are looking at new and innovative ways in which to continue forwards. We look forward to working with you as we make the most of all these experiences as we develop our Local Curriculum. Abundant blessings to you all  for all that you do for our school.

At this time we also welcome Izrael, to Room 2- we wish you and your family abundant blessings. We are so excited that you have joined our school.

Religious Education

The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus
This Sunday
Mass times:
Saturday 5.30pm, Sunday 9am and then a Children’s Liturgy at 10.15am. We look forward to seeing you this week.
In the Catholic Church, the month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This great feast in the Church is always celebrated on the octave day of Corpus Christi, the feast which celebrates the Body and Blood of Christ. Corpus Christi falls on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday (which itself falls on the Sunday after Pentecost), which means the feast of the Sacred Heart falls nineteen days after Pentecost Sunday.
The following day is the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so these two devotions to the hearts of Jesus and Mary are side-by-side on the liturgical calendar.
Novena Prayer to the Sacred HeartPray this prayer for nine consecutive days.

Bring Your Favourite Book
Last Friday:

Congratulations Martina for your wonderful achievement using the STEPS WEB programme. She is the first child at OLOL to earn a certificate, completing her  level with 138 Gold medals  and 58 Silver.
This is a highly recommended programme that your child has access too. It supports your child’s learning of the STRUCTURE OF LANGUAGE. Thank you to Mrs Sheehan, our wonderful teacher aide, for setting this up in our school. We truly appreciate all that you do.

Thank you
We are so truly grateful for our wonderful support staff who work for the good of your child. To Whaea Frayne, (Māori leader, teacher aide support), Jemma (teacher aide support), Mr Ravenhill ( our caretaker), Mrs McKenzie (our cleaner) and Mrs Worsley who holds us all together as our Office Manager.

Second Hand Uniforms
Thank you all so very much for your wonderful donations of items. We have a number of long sleeved yellow tops and other bits and pieces that are free to a good home. Please come and see Mrs Worsely in the office and she can direct you to these.

Unfortunately we have had some children’s clothing items that have been misplaced. We always do our very best to encourage children to put their items in their bags. We do apologise for this and have shared our expectations with the children and linked this with our Mercy RESPECT value.

Mid Year Reporting
Since the beginning of lockdown the staff have been looking at more effective ways in which we can share your child’s learning and progress with you in real time. The staff are working with the Seesaw app to keep you connected with your child’s progress. We will keep this type of progress sharing with you this term. By now you have witnessed many areas of learning. By the end of the term your child’s Reading and Maths levels will be shared with you as well as a self assessment on their LIVING, LOVING and LEARNING the MERCY WAY. Next term, we will look at Three Way Conferences.

Fertilizer Drive
Abundant thanks to our parents and community who are helping us with this. We have people ringing our community. This is our major fundraiser for the year and we value all of your support. Today your child will be bringing home 5 order forms to place in their neighbours letter boxes. Please help us to get the word around the area.
