Religious Education

All Saints (Nov 1)/ All Souls (Nov 2)

Gospel: Matthew 5:1-12

Jesus saw the crowds and went up a hill, where he sat down. His disciples gathered around him, and he began to teach them:

“Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!

“Happy are those who mourn; God will comfort them!

“Happy are those who are humble; they will receive what God has promised!

“Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires; God will satisfy them fully!

“Happy are those who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them!

“Happy are the pure in heart; they will see God!

“Happy are those who work for peace; God will call them his children!

“Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!

“Happy are you when people insult you and persecute you and tell all kinds of evil lies against you because you are my followers. Be happy and glad, for a great reward is kept for you in heaven. This is how the prophets who lived before you were persecuted.

We pray together to God, who loves and cares for each one of us:

We pray for the Church throughout the world: that it may be an example of God’s love in our world, spreading peace, speaking out for what is right and bringing comfort to those in need. Lord, in your mercy…

We pray for all people throughout the world: that they may find comfort when they are sad, strength to stand up for what they believe in and mercy, peace and love for one another in their hearts. Lord, in your mercy…

We pray for our parish, family and friends: that we may be inspired by the example of the Saints and of all those who have followed Jesus in their lives, to do all that we can to live as God wants us to. Lord, in your mercy…
Closing prayer: God of wisdom, help us as we try to follow the right path, share your peace and love with others, and make the world a fairer place for all to live. Amen.

From the Classrooms

Discoverers – Ms Brown & Mrs O’Connor,  Ruma 1 & Ruma 2
This week we are beginning to learn all about the Saints.  We are starting with a session about All Saints Day which was celebrated on Sunday 1st November.  We also have a special visit on Wednesday from our local Firefighters which will start off the Firewise programme that we will be looking at for 3 days.

Believers – Mrs Pedley, Ruma 3
We have really enjoyed using the last 2 weeks of live shows/performances, to help inspire us in our writing.  In Maths time, we have been keeping a close eye on the weather patterns and have been recording the temperatures and what is happening with the weather in the weather reports.

Aroha – Miss Penman, Ruma 6
We have loved having Miss Smith in our class as a student teacher the last 3 weeks. She has been helping us write some very funny stories about the Twits. We are really going to miss her next week!

Mahi Tahi – Mrs Moor, Ruma 7

We have been working hard on our fractions from: Recognising fractions in a set. (E.g ¼ of 16 and ⅔ of 9) Identifying equivalent fractions (E.g ¾ = 6/8), multiplying a fraction by a whole number (E.g 7 x 4/5) and multiplying fractions by fractions (E.g ⅗ x ¼ =), depending on the knowledge of the child. Our times tables and number knowledge have also improved as we strive to climb the basic facts ladder.
